Discrimination Is Necessary
Forget the mantra of the past generation that all discrimination is evil: We must discriminate. I’m not talking about being mean to people from different places, of course; that’s a declining, stupid and vulnerable evil. The discrimination we need to undertake is far more significant: We must discriminate against people who refuse to cooperate.
Cooperation is the soul of human thriving: Those who cooperate build and maintain human happiness; those who oppose cooperation tear it apart. There’s a good deal of fuzziness built into this distinction of course, but that merely reflects the current state of human development; the point stands.
And so we must refuse to conduct business with those who abuse human vulnerabilities. We must separate ourselves from those who steal, whether it be direct theft or theft under color of law. We must withdraw from those who champion hate, blame and freeloading.
In other words, we must discriminate against anti-cooperative people. We must also seek reconciliation, of course; our first desire should be for the anti-cooperative to reform and to join us on the good path. But still, we must divide – we must see the difference – between humans who cooperate as best they can and those who undermine cooperation. A better future lies in this direction.
